a quick note to share what we've been up to...
so, did anyone hear about the Up house? yes, i'm talking about a replica of the house you see in the movie Up, from Pixar. a local builder decided to build a house just like the one in the movie, and after getting the approval from Disney they were able to build an exact replica, inside and out, balloons and all! and they allowed visitors to come through and check it out. but to make the experience even more real, they also had Carl and Russell out on the porch, welcoming the visitors. way, way fun. :)
a neat little detail... i know the person who architectured the house. she's actually in my ward! :)

That's really cool! :) It must've been a fun project for the builders of the house! :)
the girl in our ward said this was the one project she is most proud to have been a part of. i would be too! :) this was part of the "parade of homes", and because of the Up house, this year the parade more than 5x the amount of foot traffic coming through!
what do they do with the house afterwards? will it always be for tour or is someone going to live in it? i have never heard of the parade of homes.
sorry, Clarissa... i hadn't seen this comment until today. i'm really terrible at keeping up with my blog. :-/
but to answer your question, they actually sold the house to a couple from CA, who got it for a cool $400K. they paid $200K for the novelty factor; the house itself was actually really tight and narrow, so it would keep it with the way it looked in the movie. but how fun would it be to live in the house? the kitchen appliances came with it, and it was all 1950's vintage stuff. so neat!
as for the parade of homes, it's a very popular yearly event where local builders show off their latest designs and people get to walk through the homes featuring those designs (usually about 20-something homes are featured). this gives people ideas so when they want to remodel they'll be calling the contractors whose ideas they liked best. it's a very dangerous activity. makes me want to take a mallet to my kitchen and remodel the whole thing! haha.
